Happy New Year

I hope everyone had a happy and safe New Year. I am looking forward to another great year in Scouts.

PINEWOOD DERBY MONTH!!!!!

I love the Pinewood Derby. This year will be the first time we will be using our own track! The Derby is January 26th at 7pm at Westwood Church. This will be a tune up for the District Pinewood Derby which is held in March. Come race your car and show it off to the whole Pack.

I am not mechanical at all, in fact my biggest joke is that I went to college for a reason, but each year I sit with my two boys and build a race car. I paint it and put all the decals on it. The boys gather around and ask questions about how fast we can get the car to go. Last year, I used the wrong wheels and at the race I had to make adjustments. Long story short, the wheels of both of my kid’s cars came off. It was embarrassing. However, making the cars together with them is a memory that I will always have. That is the point of the derby. Having the parents and son get together to build a race car. It isn’t about winning, it is about the time we spend with our sons that is important.

There will be no Pack Meeting this month. We will; however, have a short award presentation before the Pinewood Derby.

No Meetings

No meeting January 19th

Medieval Times

Medieval Times Scout Appreciation Day is January 17th. We will meet at the complex at 10:30 on that day. It should be fun for the whole family. Remember you had to sign up and pay for this trip in advance. Here is what to expect: Come step back in time and enjoy a day filled with spectacular pageantry, dramatic horsemanship, amazing swordplay, medieval games of skill, and authentic jousting. This includes a meal. I have never been to Medieval Times so this should be fun.

Webelos Hike

There will be a 3 ½ mile hike for the Webelos I and II on January 10th. We will meet at Westwood Church at 10:00 am and caravan to Wekieva. The cost is $5.00 per car. This hike will fulfill a requirement for the Outdoorsman Badge. Webelos should bring their lunch and a canteen full of water. Also, they should wear comfortable shoes.

Halfway Through The Year

It’s hard to believe that we are halfway through the year. From my understanding, each Scout is on track to earn their Rank Badges by year end. If your Den Leader has asked you to work on something at home with your Scout, make sure you do. We are all in this together.

Ronald McDonald House

A big thank you to the people that helped us at Share a Meal. We could not have fed all of those people with out your help. Also, thank you to the people that donated items for the Share a Meal.

Camping

The Webelos Outdoor Adventure is January 30 – February 1st at Camp La No Che. This is for Webelos Scouts only.
